Composer workshop in Budapest

The 1st phase of the “Out at S.E.A” Chamber opera workshop ended on the 28th April. 51 candidates submitted their application of whom the number of active participants was 37 from 20 countries. 4 composers were granted a scholarship by the foundation. The 4-day programme included lectures, small group sessions and supplementary opera screenings led by professors Péter Eötvös, Luca Francesconi, András Almási-Tóth and Balázs Horváth. During the course the professor prepared the composition with the participants based on a libretto provided in advance. Following the course - according to their individual assessment - 6 composers will be invited from the participants to compose the roles, and to stage the opera on 19th December 2013 in Budapest. The production will be presented in several European cities in 2014. The project is realized in the framework of Budapest Music Center and the Ulysses Network, supported by Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne and the European Union Culture Programme.

The number of active participants was 37, 4 composers were granted a scholarship by the foundation. During the course the professor prepared the composition with the participants, and they started composing a chamber opera based on a libretto provided in advance.
